John Chukwuemeka Nduaguba, 75, of Columbus, died Feb. 6, 2016.
John was born on July 7, 1940, in Oraukwu, Nigeria, to the late Peter and Victoria Okoye Nduaguba.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Igwebuike Nduaguba; their four children, Emanuel, Angela, Constance and Patrick; six grandchildren; seven sisters; four brothers; two uncles; four cousins; three nephews; one aunt; and five nieces.
He came to the United States to attend the University of California from 1965 to 67; Queen’s University Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1970; and The Ohio State University for his postdoctoral fellowship. He received his medical training at Wright State University School of Medicine, where he served his residency, becoming a medical doctor in 1982. From 1986 to 87, he served a clinical fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
John served as an emergency medicine physician for many hospitals near Columbus, including Mt. Gilead, Shelby, Nelsonville, Millersburg, Willard and Bellefontaine. He had many professional achievements and was awarded multiple honors; most recently he was recognized by Ohio Health Systems in 2007 for his 15 years in the Morrow County Emergency Department as a customer service champion.
He was a member of the Ohio Emergency Medicine Association and the Nigerian Catholic Community of Columbus. He will be remembered for his smile, kind heart, compassion, generosity, listening ear and wise guidance.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 27, at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A Requiem Mass is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 1582 Ferris Road, Columbus.
Catholic burial is at a later date in Nigeria.
