Joanne Metz, 84, of Wapakoneta, died 11:55 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Oct. 27, 1936, in West Mansfield, the daughter of the late Jim & Norma (Lease) Helfenstine. On Jan. 10, 1954, she married Donald G. Metz, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 2004.
Survivors include, 3 children, Connie (Wayne) Seitz, St. Louis, MO, Sally (Lynn) Werling, Wapakoneta and John (Marilyn) Metz, Wapakoneta; 7 grandchildren, Melanie (Scott) Hicks, Stacy (James) Cabanas, Thomas (Nicole) Werling, Jody (Mike) Baumann, Kelly (Chris) Klima, Jessica (Dustin) Schmiesing and Ashley Metz; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Danny) Fish, Bellefontaine.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Helfenstine.
Joanne was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pusheta Rd., Wapakoneta, and the Ladies’ Aide Society of the church. She also visited the sick and shut-ins of the church. She enjoyed playing cards with several local card clubs, and was an avid reader. Joanne was a collector of various things including pens and pencils. She also enjoyed sewing.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 15321 Pusheta Rd., Wapakoneta, with Pastor Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Burial is to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive family and friends from noon until time of the service, Saturday, Sept. 25, at the church.
