Jewell P. Miller, 88, of Bellefontaine passed away Monday, April 12, 2021, at the OSU Medical Center.
Jewell was born May 24, 1932, in Nancy, Ky., to the late Jack and Pearlie Mae (McKinney) Retherford. On January 1, 1980 in Plainfield, Ind., she married Paul R. Miller, who preceded her in death in 2009.
Jewell graduated from Plainfield High School in 1952. After high school she worked for the state of Indiana as a secretary in the state house. She later worked for Public Service Utilities in Plainfield, Ind.; retiring as a key punch operator. Jewell enjoyed going out to eat, especially to Bob Evans and Wendy’s. She was kind of a home body who liked sewing and crafting until her arthritis prevented her from doing so. Jewell loved watching basketball, football, golf, NASCAR; in that order. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. (Edward) Alexander; grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Phillips, George R. (Charissa) Shields and their children Cora and Eleanor, Terry (Dan) Rumley, Bessie (John) Reahard, Rick (Linda) McLaughlin, Teal Allen, Collette (Frank) Aultman, Patsy (Steve) Chase, Charles L. Alexander, Veronica Lambert, Jody (Mike) Pedlar, Penny (Ken) Mallison, Tyler (Carri) Alexander, Bryce Alexander and Bryan (Lindsay) Alexander; brother-in-law, Jack Bombei; son-in-law, Rease Morelock; 25 great grandchildren, 30 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Miller; children, George E. Shields, Jackie (Ralph) Devers and Carol Morelock; grandson-in-law, Denny Lambert, great grandson, Jonathan R. Allen; her parents; siblings, Harry M. Retherford, Ethel B. Kobelak, Dorothy Mae Wolf, William Retherford, Howard Retherford, Earl Retherford, Margaret Lyon, Lois Bombei and Esther Retherford.
A funeral service will take place Monday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Walnut Hill Cemetery at a later date.
