James Dalton Amerine, 80, of Marysville, died Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Memorial Hospital, Marysville.
He was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Big Springs, to the late Paul and Mercie Cottrell Amerine. He also was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Delma Amerine; and an uncle, Byron Cottrell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy Arlene Ramsey, whom he married June 15, 1957, at the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church; two sons, David (Karen) Amerine of Hilliard and Glenn (Annette) Amerine of Grove City; two grandsons, Bryan (Amanda) Amerine and Jason Amerine; a great-grandson, Carter Amerine; three nephews, Thomas, Bill and Bob Amerine; a niece, Roseann Miller; and many other relatives and friends.
A 1953 graduate and salutatorian of Rushsylvania High School, he received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from The Ohio State University. He retired in 1993 as project engineer with O.M. Scott and Sons, where he was an associate for more than 30 years and was a member of Scotts 25-Year Club. He developed lawn care yard spreaders and initiated several patents on his designs for the company.
He was a member of Marysville First United Methodist Church and Palestine Lodge 158 F&AM. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was stationed in Texas. He and his wife were members of the Village Squares Dance Club.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, where the Rev. Aaron Brown officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10. Interment is at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard.
