Plastipak is headquartered in Plymouth, Mich., but its humble beginnings started in Jackson Center in 1967.
It all began with the purchase of a blow-molding machine which was operated in a 1,000 square-foot garage to supply plastic containers for the Young family’s water delivery company.
The company, including the Jackson Center site, thrived over the next half century. Today, the Jackson Center site boasts over 1 million square feet.
Celebrating a rich history with more than 50 years of growth and innovation, Plastipak has sites established in North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. The company continues to expand its influence in packaging development, production and recycling across the globe.
During 2020, Plastipak was named One of America’s Best Employers by Forbes. Plastipak ranks on Forbes’ “America’s Best Employers by State” list, which was gathered by surveying 80,000 Americans working for businesses with a minimum of 500 employees.
“With us, it’s all about driving home the sense of purpose, and our purpose is delivering great products and service to our customers,” said William C. Young, president and CEO. “The great work you do today is going to set the company up for more success tomorrow.”
The global manufacturer has many local career opportunities in production and warehouse. Production technicians and maintenance roles continue to grow as the facility adds production lines to their Jackson Center site. Forklift operators are another critical role to keep both raw materials and finished products moving.
Plastipak prioritizes a culture of safety awareness and world class safety performance. Growing and promoting internal talent leads to many career advancements for current associates.
In January of 2019, Jackson Center associates came together to form a Community Involvement Committee, with a goal of rallying together within the facility while also building up the surrounding communities.
Volunteers donate their time monthly at Our Daily Bread, serving meals to those in need. In recent years, employees also have donated many hours of time to food drives and adopting families at Christmas.
Associates are branching out to find ways to contribute to local communities. One of the favorite associate contributions is participating in local parades, where the site mascot Bottles the Bear greets young and old alike.
