Starting next school year, all high school students at West Liberty-Salem will be afforded a personal iPad for educational purposes following an expansion of the program approved in a recent board of education regular meeting.
The program is being expanded to include all students in grades 9 through 12. Previously, the high school’s one-to-one iPad program included only juniors and seniors.
The district is also considering purchasing in conjunction with the iPads, software that provides a learning management system to help teachers and students coordinate classes and grades in a single online platform.
The software is designed to improve communication between teachers and parents, and also functions as a platform to post assignments and review grades.
The district has also posted for an administrative secretary position to assist with clerical work including attendance recording, student registration and other office tasks. The 212-day contract is scheduled to start Aug. 15.
The position partially replaces two-and-a-half secretarial positions that were previously eliminated over budget concerns.
WL-Salem’s intention to replace one of those secretarial positions was first reported in the April 7 Examiner.
