The Indian Lake senior class is petitioning to move the date and location of the upcoming scheduled 2021 graduation set for this May.
Board members were presented Monday during a regular meeting with a petition and survey of Indian Lake seniors and staff proposing the date of the upcoming graduation be moved from Sunday afternoon to the preceding Friday night. Also, the senior class wants the location of the May commencement ceremony to be changed from inside the gymnasium to outside on the football field.
Currently, commencement exercises are scheduled for Sunday afternoon, May 23. A total of 45 seniors signed a petition for graduation to instead begin at 7 p.m., Friday, May 21, outdoors at the football stadium.
Greater opportunities for social distancing and to accommodate COVID-19 protocols were specifically cited as reasons to change the date, board members were told.
The students did their homework; receiving OKs from spring sports coaches, a majority of staff members, as well as the custodial team.
Board members lauded the student presentation and said the matter would be directed to Superintendent Rob Underwood and the administrative team to make a recommendation to bring back to the board for consideration.
As for action taken during the meeting, board members accepted the resignation of Suzy Mallory, elementary guidance, effective June 1; and Jeff Reprogle, elementary co-principal, effective July 1. Mallory and Reprogle worked in the district for 38 and 34 years, respectively, board members note. Also, the board:
• accepted the resignations of Megan Dungeon, assistant softball; and Frank Stid, weight room supervisor; and
• approved supplemental contract for Jason Schwaderer, assistant softball; and Wes Hall, freshman baseball. The next regular board meeting is April 19.
