Indian Lake Board of Education members approved a resolution at their Tuesday evening meeting selecting Mays Consulting as the architect to provide design and construction services for needed repairs to the Indian Lake High School roof and EFIS.
The resolution also authorizes the superintendent to negotiate a contract with the architect to perform these services and to present the negotiated contract to the board for approval.
Members also voted to adopt the 2021-22 Indian Lake School Calendar that staff members chose just after winter break.
Superintendent Rob Underwood explained that next year’s calendar is very similar to this year’s calendar, including a spring break. The first day of school for students in 2021-22 is Aug. 18, and the last day for students is May 25, 2022.
One calendar difference is that Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents’ Day will no longer be designated as possible make-up days if the district exceeds the five allotted calamity days before those dates. Underwood said the district will simply use remote learning days to make-up lost days, instead of scheduling school on those federal holidays.
The superintendent also read a letter to the board from basketball official Ken McMann.
He complimented the rigorous play and courteous conduct of the Indian Lake Boys Basketball team members and coaching staff after officiating two games earlier this season.
The board also reviewed the district’s Career Advising Policy and made no significant changes.
Several previously scheduled presentations at the meeting were postponed because of the inclement weather.
Finally, District Treasurer Coleen Reprogle reported that the state funding reduction Indian Lake received in Fiscal Year 2020 was carried forward to Fiscal Year 2021 and totaled $361,748.
However, she has received word that the district will receive $198,396 of that reduction back during the remainder of Fiscal Year 2021.
In other action, the board:
• accepted the donation of $2,960 to the Class of 2022 from Greg and Susan Culp, Matt and Billi Hurley, Greg and Jackie Sell, and Ryan and Teasha Shoffstall;
• approved Holly Dalton for the special needs extra duty route driver, effective Jan. 20;
• extended supplemental contracts for 2020-21 to: McKenzie Perry, Emali Sroufe, assistant high school track; Jason Schwaderer, volunteer high school softball; and for 2021-22 to: Dean Elliott, head boys golf;
• adopted a resolution in accordance with Senate Bill 216 that amended Ohio Revised Code permitting the district to administer the third-grade English Language Arts assessments in paper format for the 2021-22 school year; and
• approved an agreement with Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities for preschool and K-12 special education services;
The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. March 15, in the board of education office.
