Nearly 500 skaters and spectators filled the Indian Lake Rollarena for the inaugural Safe Skate night Monday evening, an event kicking off National Crime Victim’s Week April 10-16.

Some 30 representatives of local public assistance agencies were on hand to interact with children and families, and raise awareness and cooperation among the public and first responders.
Co-organizer Lucretia Grogan, victim advocate and witness coordinator for the Bellefontaine City Prosecutor’s Office, was overwhelmed with the response to and explained the purpose of the first annual event.
“We wanted to give the kids a place to be safe to come meet and interact with the people they may need some day,” she said. “And (rink owner) Kevin (Moore), who has an incredibly generous heart, opened (the rink) to all Logan County kids.”
