The Indian Lake High School Ohio Hi-Point Cattle Judging Team has earned the program’s first team state championship.
This week, the four-man team of ILHS juniors Trenton Fulkerson, Kaleb Hurley, Luke Jackson, and Ethan Knief won the Ohio State FFA Dairy Cattle Judging contest at the Pickaway County Fairgrounds.
“We think this is the first time our FFA has won a state contest,” Indian Lake-OHP FFA Advisor Tanner Schoen said. “We were pretty disappointed when we were shut down in March because we were doing so well but they stuck with it and brought home a championship to Indian Lake.”
Hurley, Jackson and Fulkerson each scored in the top 10 individually.
Under normal circumstances, the winning team would represent Ohio at the National FFA Convention and would not be allowed to compete the next year at state. However, because the national convention is already canceled, the team will get the chance to compete next year and defend their title.
