Indian Lake Elementary School Safety Town has come to a close, but the adults involved hope these lessons will stick with the students for a lifetime.
ILES Kindergarten students officially graduated from Safety Town on Monday, after a two-week, in-school course. Before receiving their diplomas, Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof and Indian Lake SRO Logan Miller reviewed all the lessons, including bus safety, water safety, medication safety, playground safety, traffic/pedestrian safety, stranger danger and more.
Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof and ILES Physical Education teacher and bus driver Dan Young worked together over the past year to coordinate the curriculum and teach this important safety information to all Indian Lake kids of kindergarten age.
Chief Freyhof said in the past few years since the Covid-19 pandemic, Safety Town numbers in our area are dropping, but the training is critical. Kindergarten teachers will continue to review the lessons with additional materials provided throughout the year.
The program was a partnership between Indian Lake Schools, Russells Point Police, Washington Township Police, the Indian Joint Fire District, the Ohio Division of Natural Resources and more.
