The Huntsman Bulldogs Select AAU high school sophomore and junior girls basketball team recently went undefeated at the Lady Gym Rats Summer Tune-Up event in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
The Bulldogs went 2-0 and won their pool by the biggest win margin (23) while giving up the fewest points (65).
“This AAU season has been a challenge” head coach and program director Tray Huntsman said. “We have been in a waiting pattern since March, unsure if this AAU season would happen. However, being back in the gym, with an extremely talented group was a great feeling. Our team played extremely well against some great competition.
“Selena Weaver had a double-double in game one, with 12 points and 16 rebounds which gave us a great spark. In the second game, Cati LeVan was just amazing on defense giving us six steals which converted into quick baskets for us which gave us the momentum to win our second game. This group will win many games this AAU season and we see many of them going on to play basketball at the college level.”
West Liberty-Salem’s Weaver led all scorers and rebounders with 21 points and 25 rebounds, followed by East Dayton Christian’s Tamron Brinkman with 17 points and Calvary Christian’s Elisha Carter with 14 points. Carter led the team in assists with six.
