Readers invited to sharpen their skills in ‘Ladies First’ quiz
When the nine actors and two directors signed up to participate in “Ladies First,” an all-female comedy being presented at the Holland Theatre on April 29 and 30, they didn’t realize they’d be getting something of a history lesson. But with the play taking place at the White House during the Kennedy administration in 1962, there’s plenty of historical content to dive into.
Though a fictional account, “Ladies First” centers around an afternoon tea party with Jackie Kennedy hosting five former or future First Ladies — Mamie Eisenhower, Bess Truman, Pat Nixon, Lady Bird Johnson and an intimidating Eleanor Roosevelt. Not surprisingly, much of the humor in this story, which was written in 1972, depends on knowledge many contemporary audience members might not know.
With that in mind, The Holland Theatre and the Bellefontaine Examiner are hosting a quiz and a contest. The first person to answer the questions correctly and turn their response into the Holland Theatre office between 1 and 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21, will receive two free tickets to “Ladies First.”
Other respondents are eligible for a free beverage or snack with the purchase of a ticket to the Friday or Saturday night performance.
You’re welcome to use the Internet to research answers. The cast certainly did!
