The Logan County Health District has received reports of potential scam phone calls related to the COVID-19 vaccine, officials reported Monday.
The potential scam caller is attempting to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine and is asking for personal identifying information (such as name, date of birth, address and Social Security number) or for pre-payment for the vaccine (in forms of bank account information, credit card information, gift cards, iTunes etc.).
Officials related that when the Logan County Health District calls to schedule vaccine appointments, the LCHD representative asks for very limited information when making the appointment and will never ask for Social Security number or pre-payment information over the phone for COVID-19 vaccines.
“Some larger area hospitals are using automated calls to provide information on their specific COVID-19 vaccine scheduling practices, but are not asking for any information over the phone; they are only providing information on these automated calls,” health district representatives explained.
Those who receive a suspicious call are urged to hang up and not provide the caller with the requested information.
Additionally, there have been reports of scam websites that are made to look like the individual is scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
“The website asks for the same personal identifying information and/or pre-payment. Beware of suspicious websites and use links from LCHD’s website only,” officials said.
The LCHD’s website is www.loganhealth.org, and an online wait list form for the vaccine is available at the site.
