The death of a man and his daughter that originally was reported to be a traffic accident on March 17 has now been classified as a murder-suicide, according to a report from Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart.
The vehicle’s occupants have been identified as 8-year-old Elliot Nabarette and her father, Alcario Nabarette.
According to the report from the sheriff’s office, deputies received a report at 5:38 p.m. March 17 of a vehicle off the road and fully engulfed in flames in a field on County Road 75 at County Road 30 in Liberty Township.
When emergency responders arrived, they were unable to gain access to the vehicle due to the intensity of the flames. Once the fire was extinguished, they discovered two occupants had perished in the vehicle.
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Ohio Bureau of Investigation and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office and determined the incident was a murder-suicide, Everhart said.
The investigation has concluded, although additional information continues to be gathered, he said.
Elliot Nabarette was a second-grader at Hardin Northern Elementary.
