Urbana’s Grimes Field hosts a military appreciation day Saturday with a focus of recognizing Vietnam era veterans.
The traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will arrive Thursday with a parade starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Champaign County office complex on the city’s south end and proceed to the airport.
It is expected 200 motorcycles along with an assortment of military and law enforcement vehicles will participate.
The Wall opens Friday, Saturday and Sunday. At 5 p.m. Monday, it will depart after a ceremony for its next location.
Saturday, organizers anticipate there will be nine helicopters, 21 fixed wing aircraft and 40 military vehicles from the Vietnam-era at Grimes Field. An anticipated crowd of 8,000 is expected along with 200 visiting general aviation aircraft.
