Students in the second-grade class of Sarah Beres at Indian Lake Elementary School will have their minds energized over the summer break thanks to a $500 Energizing Education grant from the Logan County Electric Cooperative.
Students will receive a year-long magazine subscription to the magazine of their choice from a group of four — Ranger Rick, Highlights, Sports Illustrated for Kids or National Geographic for Kids.
Studies show that reading more at school and at home is associated with higher reading scores. Reading more also improves a student’s vocabulary and comprehension.
“Unfortunately, studies also show that not all students have access to reading materials at home. This subscription program gives them the chance to select something they are interested in, whether it’s science, literature, sports or animals, to learn about every month.” said Mrs. Beres.
