A “gargantuan” effort was required from challenger Grant Lotts Thursday to unseat returning champion and schoolmate Lauren Carter as the top middle school speller in Logan County.

After correctly spelling that adjective synonymous with gigantic, the Bellefontaine Middle School sixth grader and last year’s runner-up correctly spelled “solstice” to become the champion of the Logan County Spelling Bee.
The event inside the media center at Benjamin Logan Middle School is hosted by the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center and features the top two winners from each of the county schools in grades 1-8.
