The Gene Kirby Memorial Studio is dedicated during a ribbon cutting ceremony slated for 1 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the on air studios of Indian Lake’s Greatest Hits, 93.5 WRPO Radio, located at the Russells Point Municipal Building, 433 State Route 708.
The founder of the station, Gene Kirby, passed away last year. With a longtime career in AM/FM radio since the age of 17, he established WRPO 93.5 FM Oldies Radio.
The non-commercial radio station is owned by the Village of Russells Point and is operated by Gray Fox Broadcasting. The station covers the Indian Lake resort region, with a coverage area of about 10 miles in all directions.
The dedication ceremony will include a presentation to Kirby’s wife of 58 years, Barbara L. Osborne Kirby, and members of his family. Also surviving includes his daughter, Niki (Dave Young) Wertz; his grandchildren, Amanda Dean, Jason Kirby and Jenean Kirby; great-grandchildren, Westin and Jolene; brothers-in-law, Robert (Diane) Osborne and Ivan Garrabrant; nieces and nephews, friends and other relatives.
