Former Bellefontaine standout swimmer Amy Fulmer helped Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team make some program history this weekend.
Fulmer captured a sensational six more All-American honors as the Buckeyes placed in the top 10 at the NCAA national meet for the second straight year. It is the first time the Buckeyes have finished in the top 10 in two consecutive national meets.
“I could not be more proud of our young ladies,” said head coach Bill Dorenkott. “This is the culmination of a lot of time, effort and energy over the past year. Our women made a commitment to each other earlier in the season that whatever path they forged, they would do it together. And, that is exactly what they did. They were committed to the hard work of building real relationships that lead to championship level performances.”
Ohio State’s 16-member group of national qualifiers accumulated 165 points during the four-day meet, which took place at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech University. The Buckeyes combined for 27 All-America honors. Katherine Zenick led the Buckeyes with seven and Fulmer was next with six.
Fulmer placed 11th in the 50 freestyle to earn an honorable mention all-America award.She also was part of five all-America relay teams. The 200 medley team was third, the 200 freestyle relay team was fourth, the 400 medley relay was eighth and the 400 freestyle relay also took eighth.
In addition, the 800 freestyle relay team was 14th to earn an honorable mention award.
The Buckeyes finished ninth as a team with 165 points. Virginia won the national championship with 551.5 points.
