CHIEFS RUN AWAY FROM RAIDERS
It looked in the early moments like it was going to be a shootout between host Benjamin Logan and Bellefontaine on Friday.
The teams each scored a touchdown in the first 30 seconds of the game, and 34 points were scored in the first quarter as Bellefontaine emerged with a 21-13 lead.
From there, though, Bellefontaine’s defense settled in and the Chieftain offense stayed hot to pull away for a 48-13 victory in a matchup of Logan County football rivals.
Bellefontaine remains unbeaten at 4-0.
“Our kids have really bought into playing we over me football,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Brown. “It started over the winter with their commitment in the weight room and it carried over into the spring and summer. Our young men are doing what is asked of them and they are doing whatever it takes as a team to be successful.”
RIVERSIDE SWATS BEE FOR FIRST TRC WIN
Riverside’s football team bounced back from last week’s loss to Indian Lake with a lopsided victory over visiting Bethel on Friday.
The Pirates jumped out to a 41-0 halftime lead and went on to record a 48-14 victory over the Bees.
It was the first Three Rivers Conference win for the Pirates, who moved into the new league this fall after leaving the Northwest Central Conference.
“We didn’t talk about it a whole lot, but it’s pretty cool to win our first game in the new league,” said Riverside head coach Bryce Hodge.
BRAVES OUTLAST Indian Lake 41-29
Indian Lake fell behind early, fought back to take a second-half lead before watching visiting Springfield Shawnee rally for a 41-29 victory over the host Lakers on Friday night.
Indian Lake drops to 2-2 on the season. The Braves improve to 2-2.
There was no shortage of offense as the teams combined for 904 yards.
The Braves piled up 504 yards, including 318 on the ground.
Indian Lake passed for 173 yards and rushed for 229 yards, but the Lakers were hurt by four turnovers. The Lakers were intercepted three times and lost a fumble.
