Platfoot leads Riverside to 46-0 victory over USV
Freshman Myles Platfoot got his first varsity start Friday and delivered a standout performance for Riverside in a 46-0 win over host Upper Scioto Valley.
The Pirates stretch their record to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in the Northwest Central Conference Lane division, while the Rams fall to 2-3, 2-3.
“I was most pleased with how we rebounded after last week’s loss,” said RHS head coach Bryce Hodge. “We made some adjustments and made plays. I’m proud of our defense, our line play improved and overall it was a good night.”
Riverside’s normal starting quarterback Ethan Jackson was injured and that moved Platfoot into the starting spot for Friday. Platfoot didn’t shy away from the spotlight, completing 15-of-26 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns.
London shakes off Chiefs in 2nd half
Banged up and bruised, Bellefontaine threw everything it could muster at London in the first half Friday and trailed by just seven points at halftime against the unbeaten Red Red Raiders.
But the Chiefs ran out of steam in the second half, with London pulling away to win 50-14 in a Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division football game.
Injuries continue to pile up for the Chiefs. They lost two more starters Friday to make it six for the season.
Bellefontaine (2-3, 1-3) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Chiefs trailed 21-14 at halftime before London (5-0, 3-0) ripped off 29 straight points in the second half.
“I am really proud of the fight our young men displayed in the first half,” said BHS head coach Jason Brown. “We had guys playing at positions they didn’t have much experience at. They gave London everything they could handle in the first half. Our kids played with great toughness and effort.”
Lakers’ hopes dashed by Falcons 28-27 in overtime
Indian Lake’s football team went to overtime for a second week in a row Friday.
However, the Lakers were not able to come away with a win this time as visiting Graham escaped with a 28-27 victory in Central Buckeye Conference Mad River play.
After besting county rival Benjamin Logan 20-14 in overtime a week ago, Indian Lake was dealt a heartbreaker this week. The Lakers scored in the final 10 seconds of regulation to force an extra period.
Graham went on offense first and scored to take a 28-21 lead. Indian Lake then got the ball and scored on its first play, but went for a two-point conversion run to win and was stopped. That allowed the Falcons to secure the one-point win.
“In those situations, I like to call time out and let the players decide if we want to go for the win,” said IL head coach Dave Coburn. “It’s their game so they should decide. I asked the players and they wanted to go for the win and I commend them for wanting to be winners. We just didn’t make the play and didn’t execute.”
The Falcons stay unbeaten at 5-0 and they maintain their spot atop the CBC Mad River division at 4-0. It is their third 1-point victory of the season and its second in overtime. The Lakers slips to 2-3, 2-2.
Graham outgained Indian Lake 321-137 in total offense. The Lakers completed just seven passes for 60 yards and had 77 rushing yards.
