Bellefontaine Police Chief Brandon Standley enjoyed his first experience painting so much it inspired his wife to get him painting supplies as a Christmas gift.
Bellefontaine Police Chief Brandon Standley works on a painting of a lighthouse by the sea for the “Not So Bad Art by Good People” event. The police chief and 14 other community members created paintings or other artworks that will be auctioned during a dinner to support the Logan County Art League on Friday, Feb. 12. He is one of 15 local “celebrities” chosen to create an artwork for the Logan County Art League’s first “Not So Bad Art by Good People” fundraiser.
He painted a picture of a lighthouse by the sea from a photo he took while vacationing in Nantucket two years ago. Art league members suggested he begin with acrylic paints because they are “most forgiving of mistakes,” he wrote.
Although the chief has no painting or art background, he jumped at the chance to take part in the event, which will culminate with a Friday, Feb. 12, dinner and art auction at the Holland Theatre.
“This is something that I have wanted to try to do, but had never taken it seriously until I was asked to participate,” Chief Standley said.
He said he has enjoyed his first painting so much he has taken it up as a hobby and has already painted a second landscape using painting supplies given to him by his wife, Bess as a Christmas gift.
