A former Belle Center resident died from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash around 12:15 p.m. Monday in the 4600 block of north U.S. Route 68.
Mary Hilty, 86, of Columbus, was unresponsive at the scene, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
She was a passenger in a southbound car operated by her husband, Marvin, 86.
Deputies report the Hilty car hit the back of a panel van operated by Allan Rutkowski, 51, of Maumee, which was pushed into a car operated by Cody Sniffen, 25, of Kenton. Both Rutkowski and Sniffen were stopped in traffic for a local utility work crew.
The work zone was properly marked and the crew was using portable lights to control traffic.
Marvin Hilty was transported by a BMRT squad to Mary Rutan Hospital and later was transferred to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus for treat- ment of his injuries.
Mary Hilty was transported from the scene by a CareFlight helicopter to OSU. She died overnight, deputies report Rutkowski complained of a loss of feelings in his legs and was flown by Lifeflight to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima for treatment.
Sniffen refused treatment at the scene.
Bellefontaine and Huntsville squads provided mutual aid.
This is the eight fatal crash in Logan County this year.
