Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are investigating reports of a loud “bang, or explosion,” that occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday in the area of west Auburn Avenue and Eaton Street.
Officers received at least two complaints of the loud noise that reportedly shook the windows of a residence in the 500 block of west Auburn Avenue.

Stacey Roberts of 200 Easton St. told law enforcement the explosion, “sounded like a cannon.”
When officers arrived on scene, they found two individuals near the railroad tracks on Plumvalley Street and recognized one of the males as a nearby resident.
Justin White of 323 Plumvalley St. told officers that he heard the loud explosion, and when he came outside to check into what was happening, he saw a tan vehicle quickly driving southbound across the railroad tracks.
Another nearby resident also told officers that he observed a gold or tan vehicle, possible a Buick or Oldsmobile make, quickly flee the area after the loud explosion.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Bellefontaine police, 599-1010.
