With her constant earthly smile, Ellen Louise (Taft) Vitt made a grand entrance into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 16, 2021, in her home surrounded by her husband and their 3 children. Ellen was born in Washington, DC on December 1, 1952, a daughter of the late Gordon & Ginger Taft.
On June 26, 1976, Ellen married, her husband of 45 years, Frank J. Vitt in Michigan City, Indiana, and he survives, along with their three children, Jacob Vitt of West Liberty, Ohio, Naomi (Brian) Solomon of Springfield, Ohio, and Hannah (Brent) Hall of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ellen was an incredible grandmother to Ali, Claire, Mia and Lydia Solomon and Madison, Olivia, and Logan Hall. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Sue Genz and Kathy (David) Meade; and a brother, Bill (Joanna) Taft; as well as many extended family members.
Born with a love for music, Ellen learned to play the piano at an early age that would lead her to a 44-year stint of teaching piano lessons to hundreds of area children and adults. She found great joy in accompanying music groups such as the Chanteurs, the West Liberty-Salem School Choirs and musicals, community choirs/musicals, and many church services at Grace Chapel Church where she was a 44-year long member, 35 years of which she taught the 5-year-old Sunday School class.
She had a love for history as she and her husband restored and lived in one of West Liberty’s oldest homes for many years. Her knowledge of restoration helped her serve as an active member on the West Liberty Historical Society that is presently restoring the town hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the West Liberty Historical Society, Town Hall Restoration, P.O. Box 159, West Liberty, Ohio 43357.
The family would like to thank Universal Home Health & Hospice for their wonderful help and care of Ellen, Grace Chapel Church, and the community of West Liberty for their outpouring of love and support throughout this time.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 21, at Grace Chapel Church, 500 Linden Street in West Liberty, where Pastors Eric Mounts and Brian Solomon will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday. A lunch in will be provided and all attendees are welcome to attend so the family may celebrate Ellen’s life with you. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, at the convenience of the family.
