Deputies responded Monday to a Rushsylvania residence on a report of a fraud complaint, where the male complainant said he was scammed out of $3,500.
The resident told deputies he received a phone call to supposedly renew security service on his computer. He said he declined the security service, and then the caller advised he would need to gain access to his computer to issue a refund.
The caller told the resident he had mistakenly credited him $3,999 instead of $399, and instructed the resident to purchase gift cards totaling $3,500. The resident said he purchased the gift cards and relayed the numbers on the gift card to the caller.
Driver cited for reckless operation
Kenneth E. Fletcher, 34, of Columbus, was cited for reckless operation related to a traffic incident on U.S. Route 33 Saturday evening.
Dispatchers of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received two 911 calls about 8:40 p. m. in reference to two reckless vehicles. Callers stated that Fletcher’s car and a pickup were westbound on U.S. 33 near County Road 10 driving at high rates of speed.
The callers stated that Fletcher was observed throwing items out of his vehicle toward the pickup, and that he also stopped his vehicle in the left lane of U.S. 33, exited his vehicle, and made obscene gestures toward the other driver.
A traffic stop was initiated with Fletcher’s vehicle in the area of U.S. 33 and Township Road 99. Officers of the Washington Township Police Department also responded to the scene.
Authorities also pulled over the pickup, and the driver stated that Fletcher had passed him and then slammed on his brakes, nearly causing an accident. He also said Fletcher had thrown an item at his pickup, which did not cause any damage.
Fletcher was issued the citation and released from the scene.
