Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report a Huntsville man was cited for leaving the scene of a crash related to a car and buggy crash Thursday evening that sent two buggy occupants to Mary Rutan Hospital by Riverside squad for treatment of injuries.
Jon Foster, 85, also was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead following the crash about 10:10 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 75 and County Road 35.
Deputies report Dan Wagler, 19, was operating a northbound buggy on C.R. 35, with three other occupants. Wagler told deputies he observed Foster’s Chevrolet Camaro approaching from the south and said the vehicle start to move over.
Wagler explained the Camaro did not get over far enough and struck the left rear wheel of the buggy with the right front side of the Camaro. The buggy operator said the driver then continued toward west State Route 47.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department Units began patrolling north State Route 235, north from S.R. 47, in an attempt to locate the Camaro in case it traveled north on S.R. 235.
Washington Township officers located the vehicle traveling northbound on S.R. 235 near County Road 54, where a traffic stop was initiated.
Foster told officers he knew he had hit something, but believed it was a construction barrier and did not know it was a buggy.
Foster’s vehicle had very heavy damage, including a flat tire that had worn away and was driving on the rim, officials said.
Suspected meth, heroin, cocaine recovered during traffic stop
Driver Jesse G. Kindle, 39, of Lima, was charged with possession of a controlled substance during a traffic stop Thursday evening near Huntsville.
His passenger, Dakota E. Kindle, 25, of Lima, also was arrested on a Bellefontaine Police Department warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of possession of drug abuse instruments.
Deputies on patrol in the area of State Route 117 and State Route 274 about 9:30 p.m. reported observing a minivan with the rear right license plate light not illuminated. A registration check showed the registered owner had a suspended operator’s license.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop in the area of S.R. 117 and County Road 36, and observed multiple open containers of alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. The driver told deputies he had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening. Jesse also was holding a torch style lighter, deputies said.
A probable cause search was conducted of the vehicle and deputies found a plastic bag containing a white substance and a smoking device on the driver’s seat. Jesse told deputies the substance was “ice,” the street name for crystal methamphetamine.
In the center console of the vehicle, deputies recovered a metal bottle cap with suspected drug residue and a hypodermic needle. A package of cigarettes containing suspected meth, heroin and crack cocaine were located on the floorboard in front of the driver’s seat.
Both defendants were transported to the Logan County Jail. Deputies are forwarding a report to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of additional charges against Jesse, including possession of drug abuse instruments, open container in a motor vehicle and driving under suspension.
