Brittnie Childress, 18, of Lakeview, was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, speed, no operator’s license and possession of marijuana following an incident Monday afternoon.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol about 3:15 p.m. in the area of State Route 366 east of Township Road 239 reportedly observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle.
However, officers said the driver clearly displayed efforts to elude them. The vehicle was located at 106 Lind St., Russells Point, where it appeared the defendant had lost control and the vehicle struck a house.
As an officer turned around to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle began heading eastbound on Westview and eventually stopped by a residence. Officers then initiated the stop.
The driver was identified as Childress. When asked why she left after striking a residence with the vehicle, the defendant advised she was trying to get away from officers. Childress reportedly had three other occupants riding with her, a 16-year-old or 12-year-old and a 1-year-old.
Officers observed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Childress advised she had marijuana inside the vehicle.
The case has been sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for review for possible additional charges, which include child endangerment. Officers of the Russells Point Police Department also assisted at the scene.
