Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and their partners from Iron City Sports Bar, 1125 S. Main St. hosted a kick-off event at the restaurant this week for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign, which began Friday continues through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6.
The sheriff’s office and other area law enforcement will conduct extra patrols on local roadways throughout the campaign period to deter impaired driving and other dangerous traffic offenses.
The traffic enforcement effort coincides with end-of-the summer activities and Labor Day weekend approaching in early September, when roads are busy with area residents traveling to attend for barbecues, sporting events and other festivities.
Deputies and restaurant representatives wants to remind the citizens of Logan County about the dangers of impaired driving. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol fatal crash statistics, there were 685 OVI-related fatalities in 2020 throughout the state of Ohio.
In both 2020 and 2019, Logan County had three fatal crashes where alcohol or drugs played a factor.
“As the summer draws to a close, both the Iron City Sports Bar and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office would like to emphasize the importance of sobriety behind the wheel,” officials said at the kick-off event.
