The Doors of EnCOURAGEment fundraiser that has been made possible through the generosity of the community and many individuals sharing their artistic talents will mark its 10th anniversary this year following more than $350,000 that has been raised for the Logan County Cancer Society.
Organizer Melody Couchman reported this week that the 2021 display will take place in August again this year, after the former spring event was moved to the same time period in 2020 as a result of the pandemic.
“The Doors are absolutely happening this year and everything else remains much the same, it just will take place in August instead of April,” she said.
“The success of the Doors of EnCOURAGEment would not have been possible without the great support of our sponsors. Because of such generosity, more than 700 doors have been part of the past nine years of displays and many have been given the opportunity to create.”
Doors that serve as blank canvases for area residents are currently available for participants to pick up and start decorating by messaging the Doors of EnCOURAGEment Facebook page.
In addition, businesses and others who are interested in providing sponsorship opportunities so that others can create the door entries also are invited to message the page as well.
“Doors are created as you choose,” representatives said via the Facebook page. “It’s art! Have fun with it. We only ask that it be positive, respectful of the cause (does not have to be cancer related), finished on both sides, sealed for the weather and fit in the bases we provide. We provide the doors, weights and bases and take care of all the set up.
“You provide the time, love and talent to create a beautiful door.”
During August, the decorated doors will be set up downtown Bellefontaine and then auctioned at the end of the display to raise funds for the cause.
The Logan County Cancer Society offers financial assistance to Logan County residents with a cancer diagnosis to cover expenses such as medication, equipment, supplies, wigs and other items, including gas cards to help with treatment-related travel costs. The Mary Rutan Foundation oversees the program.
