Donna Mae Scherer, 85, of Bellefontaine, went to be with her Lord and Savior with her loving family by her side at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at her home.
She was born in Urbana on Feb. 23, 1930, to the late Forkie and Hattie Mae Wood.
On Dec. 15, 1947, she married Eugene R. Scherer in Ringo, Ga., and he preceded her in death July 18, 1996. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Phillip and Harold E. Scherer; a granddaughter, Mickie James; two sisters, Mary Jane Wood and Edith Foster; and two brothers, Alfred and Carl Wood.
Survivors include her two children, Barbara (Gerald “Lank” Bargdill) Scherer and William (Pam Clark) Scherer, both of Bellefontaine; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her teacup Chihuahua, “Baby.”
A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, and was well-known for her Shady Bowl barbecue, making potato soup with dumplings, and her walnut and chocolate cakes. She especially loved spending time with her family, and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were her greatest joy in life. The time and effort Samantha Hook spent in helping to care for her grandmother was a testimony of the love Donna Mae’s family had for her.
Pastor David Moore officiates a funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where visitation is two hours prior. Burial follows in Huntsville Cemetery.
