Traffic stop nets drug charges
Adam Powers, 37, of Sidney, was charged with possession of drugs, tampering with evidence and resisting arrest as a result of a traffic stop about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department stopped a vehicle near U.S. Route 33 and Township Road 239 for a registration violation. The vehicle license plates did not match the vehicle, officers said.
Powers claimed he recently purchased the vehicle, but could not provide any supporting documentation. While speaking with Powers, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and observed open containers. Officers said he began to sweat profusely and his eyes were bloodshot.
The defendant was asked to exit the vehicle and he began to get agitated and would not comply with officers. When officers tried to pat him down, he pulled away causing a struggle for control. He reached into his waistband and threw two plastic bags under the vehicle.
Officers said the baggies contained a large amount of crystal substance, as well as nearly 90 tablets identified as Xanax. Other drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found. Powers was lodged in the Logan County Jail and additional charges may follow.
The Washington Township Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
