YMCA Early Learning Center set to open next month
Recent activities of the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities were highlighted at the board’s Thursday evening meeting, including the recognition of Logan County Direct-Service Professionals Day.
Officials said direct-service professionals were treated to lunch from Vic’s Country Cookin’ food truck and given gifts from vendors, who were people with disabilities and operated their own businesses.
“It was a beautiful day and LCBDD cannot express enough gratitude for the hard-work and dedication DSPs show every day to care for individuals with disabilities, and particularly throughout the pandemic. Thank you to our DSPs,” board members said.
The board also was informed about updates for the YMCA daycare coming to the LCBDD’s Discovery Center, 1973 State Route 47, Bellefontaine.
Becky Ciminillo, vice president of youth development, reports that Tracey Burton has been hired as the director of the Early Learning Center. The center plans to open two classrooms in November.

Superintendent Saul Bauer reminded board members the 33rd annual LCBDD chicken barbecue is slated for 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 14.
It is the agency’s largest fundraiser of the year and the board expects to sell more than 3,000 chicken dinners. Delivery is available for advance orders of five or more dinners.
In celebration of 60 years of services, the LCBDD will give away a homemade pie every 60 minutes.
In other matters, Superintendent Bauer submitted a request to the Logan County Commissioner’s Office to reappoint board members Valerie Robb and Lindsay Krieger and submitted a request to the Logan County Common Pleas Court to reappoint board member Bridget Hawkins.
The LCBDD also will be working with the Ohio Association of County Boards representative Randy Beach to update their strategic plan for 2022, which will continue to improve services provided to the community.
Two recent fundraising efforts also supported Special Olympics. An Iron City Sports Bar fundraiser generated an additional $470 to help Sheena Braun be part of the Special Olympics Cheerleading Team.
Additionally, local Business Professionals of America from Indian Lake, Graham, Riverside and Upper Scioto Valley from Ohio Hi-Point Career Center satellite locations collaborated to raise $1,557 for the Logan County Braves Special Olympics team, as previously detailed in the Examiner.
Members also completed a training Thursday evening with Merakey Behavioral Health Services Program Director Garry Mosier. He presented information on their newly implemented Dual Diagnosis Treatment Team.
The DDTT is a recovery-oriented approach to supporting individuals who are diagnosed with both a persistent mental illness and a developmental disability. The program offers a team approach to service coordination and treatment for individuals who have encountered challenges with more traditional treatment settings.
