All deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office — both auxiliary and full-time deputies — who patrol the fairgrounds daily during fair week are volunteering their time, Chief Deputy Randy Dodds reports.

The Logan County Fair Board has a $4,000 contract with the sheriff’s office to provide security at the fair, but that money goes into the department’s auxiliary fund, which is used to buy uniforms and equipment for auxiliary deputies and helps fund activities such as the annual Shop with a Cop program to provide children with gifts at Christmas time, Col. Dodds said.
The office has 25 auxiliary deputies and they cover a schedule of at least 48 hours of volunteer service at the fair each of the six days, according to the schedule.
In addition to the minimum 48 hours of coverage, additional auxiliary deputies or full-time deputies who want to volunteer, are often on the fairgrounds at various times, Sgt. Ryan Furlong reported.
