Retired dance instructor Suzanne Dennis admits she may be a better model for an Edgar Degas painting than the artist behind the easel, but her ability to capture the essence of a few of her favorite things fits nicely with the spirit of the Logan County Art League’s “Not So Bad Art by Good People.”
“I was going to attempt to paint a dancer, but after much consideration, I decided Degas I’m not,” Ms. Dennis said of her initial inspiration to mimic the style of the French Impressionist, best known for his paintings of dancers.
But she decided to scale back her ambition a touch.
“Instead, I thought a still life of things I enjoy — a bottle of good wine, blue transferware, a pitcher of flowers — could work.”
Although she has some experience with watercolor painting, Ms. Dennis opted for a different medium.
“I took a watercolor course several years ago, but this is my first try with acrylics,” she said. “To say I was nervous is putting it lightly.”
