Marathon runner Brenda Moots blew past her goal of raising $2,800 for the Chippewa and Russells Point outreach centers over the weekend, collecting $6,020 by the time she was done.
With the support of the community—and 84 pledges—Moots ran almost 50 miles as part of her Dollars for Drew fundraiser. The Run Disney Dopey Challenge she signed up for pushes participants to complete a 5K, a 10K, a half-marathon and a full marathon over four consecutive days.
For that final marathon, Moots was greeted by friends and family at the old Lakeview elementary school track at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8. In fact, 31 people ranging in age from 3 to 81 years old joined Moots on the track to walk, run or bike with her.
Drew Shick, outreach center director, also ran at Brenda’s side in the 5K, the 10K and for the last half of Sunday’s marathon, completing his first half-marathon.
“The community rallied together,” Moots concluded. “It was truly a blessing to be able to honor Drew and his work at the outreach centers in such a fun way.”
She also thanked her husband, Holder, her entire family and “all the gals at Fearless Fitness who have always supported my crazy ideas and dream goals.” She gives credit to God, too, for helping her complete the challenge with a smile at every turn.
