Several recent graduates from Benjamin Logan High School returned to share insights, advice and anecdotes about life after high school with current sophomores, juniors and seniors for a “College 101” session just prior to Christmas break.
Alumni Joseph Gulick, Chance Frater, Nolan Rivers, Sadie Shellenberger, Elanie McWade, Alicia Jenkins, Mitchel Vance, Gavin Gibson, Brinlyn Tipton, Kami Stanfield, Raistlyn LeVan, Annika Simovart, Mailiis Simovart, LeAnn Regula, and Gabe Hemmelgarn shared with current BLHS students, who are looking toward the future and contemplating their own journey to post-secondary education.
College 101 is an annual tradition at BLHS. The event was organized by the Student Government leaders and advisor Megan Hastings and took place in the BLHS Auditorium in a casual setting that provided a unique opportunity to have a question and answer format between the BLHS students and recent graduates who are experiencing college life in interesting times due to the pandemic.
Members of Student Government along with teachers Trish Hemmelgarn and Jeff Fay facilitated the session, with the returning graduates speaking about topics including class schedules and textbooks to doing their own laundry and living with a roommate.
Numerous topics were covered by the graduates, including taking advantage of Advanced Placement classes and other classes available for college credit, how to select the college that is right for them, what they should be doing now regarding course selection in high school, athletics, dorm life and time management.
The returning students represented Lockhaven University, Toledo University, Ohio Northern University, Miami University, Wright State University, Heidelberg University, The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Ashland University and the University of Findlay.
