The City of Bellefontaine is continuing refuse collections throughout the coronavirus pandemic, with special considerations asked of area residents.
“Refuse collection is an ‘Essential Service.’ During this public health crisis, it is imperative more than ever thatwe follow established policies to ensure the safety of our drivers who complete this work and to ensure that it will continue,” city department of public utilities officials said Friday in a press release.
Customers who use the “blue bag” option should make sure that the bag is securely closed and not overfilled so that it might break when picked up.
For customers who use trash container options, all trash must be contained in regular trash bags and no loose trash in the can. The lid needs to fit securely, and all additional trash will need to be in a blue bag set beside the container.
There will be no bulk items collected during the governor’s stay-at-home order.
Recycling needs to be sorted, with paper and cardboard in one bin; glass, plastics and metal containers in a separate bin.
If you currently have just one bin – you may set out a similar size Rubbermaid-like tub to separate these items or alternate and set out your paper one week and your containers a different week.
Non-compliance will result in your items left at the curb and there will be no call-backs.
