The City of Bellefontaine is finalizing plans for its Bicentennial Celebration, with a block party event slated for 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, in the downtown area.
Mayor Ben Stahler said at 7 p.m., a brief ceremony will take place, with the American Legion presenting colors and the Bellefontaine High School marching band slated to perform. The ceremony is followed by a historic drone photo of participants gathered for the cerebration at 7:30 p.m.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, 12 food trucks will be on site, the block party is a DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) event.
History trivia will be incorporated throughout the event, along with a vintage car show, featuring Ferraris, vintage race cars and automobiles representing a different decade over the last century, the mayor related.
A variety of music groups will be performing, beginning with the Madriver Dulcimers at 4 p.m. and Popular Demand barbershop quartet at 4:45 p.m. The Fountainaires perform their big band sound at 5:30 p.m., followed by vocalist Kevin Ashba at 6:15 p.m.
Miss Demeanor finished off the night from 8 to 10 p.m., and the city’s first laser light show is planned for 9 p.m.
There is no fee for admission, and all area residents are invited to help celebrate the city’s bicentennial. The original celebration planned for 2020 had to be postponed because of concerns with COVID-19.
