Completion of the city’s $1-plus million street-paving project was detailed Tuesday in a regular meeting of the Bellefontaine City Council. All or part of 43 streets, including several in and around the downtown area, have been paved. Approximately $800,000 of the $1.1 million paving project was paid for with funds from the Ohio Public Work Commission. The only remaining work involves striping the newly-paved thoroughfares. Zimmerman Painters from Fremont has been awarded the bid for that project and will begin as soon as weather permits, according to discussion during the council meeting.
Action taken during the meeting included approval of a third-phase of federal coronavirus relief funding in the amount of $477,435.39. To date, the city has collected a total of $779,030.39 in funding to help pay for additional expenditures brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Council also passed a resolution Tuesday to create a separate revenue account for the interest accumulated by its coronavirus relief fund.Mayor Ben Stahler during the meeting presented to council three appointees to serve on a newly-formed Bellefontaine-Logan County Finance Authority. The new board creates a single, joint effort for economic development between the city of Bellefontaine and Logan County. Terry Stolly, Tom Simon and Doug Zimmerman have previously served on the former Bellefontaine Finance and Development Authority, which was created four years ago. They will continue to represent the city. Logan County Commissioners will appoint three members to the seven-person board, and a final board member will be appointed separately, the mayor said.
Bellefontaine City Council reconvenes at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 10.
