Bellefontaine City Council amended a 10-year-old accounting error in a regular meeting Tuesday that will boost revenue for the Logan County Visitor’s Bureau.
An ordinance amending the city’s hotel tax and relevant permanent appropriations was passed on first-and-final reading.
The tax, which was originally passed in 2010, was supposed to evenly distribute revenue between the city’s General Fund, and the visitor’s bureau. However, city administrators discovered recently that only the annual projected totals were being split, as opposed to the overall collection, according to discussion Tuesday.
The result: Some $47,130 that should have gone to the county visitor’s bureau in the last 10 years was not properly distributed.
Council amended the ordinance Tuesday to reflect that the total amount was to be distributed, and also authorized appropriations in the amount of $23,565 to both the General Fund, and the visitor’s bureau.
In other city business, an ordinance authorizing the Bellefontaine Fire Department to apply for grant funding was approved on second reading. The grant funds were made available as a result of government response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and if recieved would bring in $1,000 for the fire department to utilize towards PPE and relevant equipment.
