Economic planning is critical to a community’s growth, not just in the immediate future, but decades down the road, consultant Nate Green said during today’s annual meeting of the Logan County Community Improvement Corporation.
“Communities that have a plan are the ones that win,” he said.
There are examples where communities grow without an economic development plan, but it can be haphazard.
Delaware County grew from a population of 50,000 in 1990 to more than 200,000, he said.
But there was no overall guiding plan for developing public utilities and transportation infrastructure.
There have been stresses on the community which is heavily residential development, and community leaders there are proceeding with a plan, Mr. Green of the Montrose Group LLC said.
His firm was hired by Columbus 2020 to study each community in the 11-county economic development organization which includes Logan County.
