The Area Agency on Aging offers a six-week Healthy U Chronic Pain Self-Management Workshop for adults of any age who have chronic pain and/or their caregivers.
The sessions are offered from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning March 10 through April 14 at St. Mary of the Woods, 464 Madison Ave., Russells Point.
Chronic pain — pain that lasts longer than three to six months — can take both a physical and emotional toll. The workshop helps people develop the skills and coping strategies to better manage their symptoms and feel healthier.
The interactive, small group workshop has been proven to improve quality of life and reduce health care expenses by increasing self-confidence and providing new skills. Topics include pain management, nutrition, exercise, medication use, emotions, and communicating with doctors and family about your pain.
Moving Easy, a gentle movement program, is introduced in week three.
There is no charge for participants who are 60 years of age or older; younger participants pay a $20 fee. Everyone who completes the course receives the companion textbook, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain, and the Moving Easy CD.
Space is limited and advance registration is required by calling Jean Klinker at 441-1501.
