Bellefontaine’s wrestling team went 1-1 in a tri-match against Tippecanoe and host Mechanicsburg on Wednesday night.
The Chieftains started with a 40-28 win over the Red Devils, but fell to the state-ranked Indians 62-15.
“It was nice to get a win over Tippecanoe,” said BHS head coach Aaron LaBatt. “We didn’t wrestle that well, but it was enough to get a victory. We saw some good things we can build on.
“We were outmatched against Mechanicsburg. They are one of the top two teams in the state in Division III and have a chance to win it all. It was good our kids got to see that type of wrestling, though.”
Freshman Bruno Pattison (195) led Bellefontaine by going 2-0, while Gaige Reeves (106), Zach Yoesting (113), Bryan Ward (120), Austin Baker (126), Dylan Christman (132), Trey Henderson (138), Dawson Miller (160) and Boris Pattison (170) all went 1-1.
“Bruno is turning a corner and realizing what he is capable of,” said LaBatt. “He has wrestled very well the past few weeks. Gaige and Bryan continue to wrestle tough and Boris is also wrestling really well right now.”
Bellefontaine travels to the Western Brown Hammer and Anvil Invitational on Saturday.
