Bellefontaine and Benjamin Logan each qualified numerous swimmers to the upcoming district meet during last weekend’s sectional.
Because of COVID regulations, the sectional meet was spread between eight sites.
Bellefontaine’s girls team finished with two relay teams advancing as well as four swimmers qualifying in individual events.
Bellefontaine’s 200 medley relay team of Sarah Fulmer, Sarah Starkey, Abby Kite and Morgan Henry is seeded seventh for the district meet, which is Feb. 17 at Miami University.
The Chiefs’ 400 freestyle relay team of Joslyn Robinson, Olivia Ullom, Samantha Starkey and Sarah Starkey are seeded 14th for the districts.
Individually for the BHS girls, Sarah Starkey, Sarah Fulmer, Henry and Joslyn Robinson will swim in district events.
Sarah Starkey will compete in the 200 freestyle (14th seed) and the 500 freestyle (ninth seed), Sarah Fulmer will swim in the 100 freestyle (14th seed) and 100 backstroke (10th seed), Henry will compete in the 100 freestyle (seventh seed) and 100 backstroke (eighth seed) and Robinson will swim in the 200 individual medley.
Bellefontaine’s boys team was unable to qualify any swimmers to the district meet, but they do have a second alternate (they will swim if two other teams are unable to) for the districts. That is the 400 freestyle relay team of Blake McDonald, Elijah Merrin, Aidan Mifsud and Lucas Harrington.
“All of our swimmers saw success,” said Bellefontaine coach Sharon Lewis. “Not everything went our way, but we persevered and gave it everything we had. I am extremely proud of our swimmers and excited for our upcoming CBC Championship meet Saturday and then the district meet the following week.”
Ben Logan’s boys and girls teams will both be represented at the district meet.
For the BL boys, Kelvin Ong swam a :58.83 in the 100 butterfly to qualify for the districts as the 21st seed. Ong’s time broke the previous school record set by Jaden Sims during the 2016-17 season.
The Raiders’ Carter Rees earned a district berth in the 100 backstroke. He is the 19th seed.
The 200 medley relay team of Rees, Max Leezer, Ong and Jacob McKenrick qualified as the 18th seed and the 400 freestyle relay team of Rees, Leezer, Ong and Jacob McKenrick qualified as the 21st seed.
For the BL girls team, Annika Simovart qualified to districts in two events. She is seeded 19th for the 50 freestyle and 17th for the 100 freestyle.
The Raiders’ 400 freestyle relay team of Junette Ly, Allison Moore, Maria Henderson and Simovart qualified to districts as the 20th seed.
Sectional results for Indian Lake were not yet reported.
