SIDNEY — A Shelby County man who reportedly chased others while carrying a chainsaw was arrested early Saturday after an hour-long standoff with authorities.

Phillip A. Leonard, 40, of 5927 E. State Route 29, Sidney, was taken into custody on charges of aggravated menacing, inducing panic and obstructing official business.
Deputies of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office were called to the man’s residence about 3 a.m. after his wife placed an emergency call in which she told dispatchers her husband was chasing people around with a chainsaw.
When authorities arrived, the wife and friends had safely left the residence and Mr. Leonard was alone inside. During the hour that ensued, Mr. Leonard reportedly ran the chainsaw as he approached various windows in the home and held the running chainsaw outside.
He surrendered without further incident at 4:22 a.m. and reportedly admitted using alcohol and cocaine.
He was taken to Wilson Health in Sidney for an assessment before being lodged the Shelby County Jail where he was being held on $7,500 bond, deputies report.
Deputies were assisted by officers of the Sidney Police Department.
