Camp Willson marks 100 years serving Logan County, Central Ohio YMCA
Nestled in 500 acres of woods and rolling scenery overlooking Lake Mac-O-Chee just west of Bellefontaine, YMCA Camp Willson along County Road 11 turns 100 years old this year.
Celebrations are planned throughout the year to mark the centennial, beginning with an April 8 Polar Bear Plunge, a June 8 community ice cream social and an Aug. 10-12 alumni weekend for former campers.
Historic buildings pay homage to the camp’s past, while modern facilities provide the backdrop for a wide variety of camping experiences for youths as well as adults. Traditional, age-old outdoor camp activities piggyback onto science, technology, engineering, arts and math learning with large dashes of good old-fashioned camp fun thrown in the mix.
“We’re excited,” Kim Jordan, chief operating officer of the Central Ohio YMCA, said. “This only comes around once. It’s a great chance for us to show off the camp and celebrate our longtime donors. We also want to continue to make sure the YMCA of Central Ohio is supporting campers throughout Ohio.”
