Is it really the Christmas season until you’ve had a chance to see the holiday displays at the Logan County History Center in Bellefontaine? For many, it really isn’t.
Fortunately, you still have three more opportunities to enjoy the music, the trees and the lights of Christmas with special evening hours on Friday, Dec. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30, and regular hours on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11, from 1 to 5 p.m.
“Our Christmas open house has been going since before I started here 24 years ago,” said Todd McCormick, curator/director. “It’s our biggest event of the year, and it’s been great yet again.”
The first thing you might notice are the trees lining the hallways, each one reflecting a different look or theme based on the business or organization that sponsored it.
Guests are offered ballots upon entering the museum to vote on their favorite of 14 grownup trees and eight kid-decorated trees. They can also choose the best of six downstairs rooms in Orr Mansion, from the kitchen to the east parlor, each decorated by friends of the museum. The winner in each category will receive a $20 Chamber choice gift card.
Christmas at the History Center also includes daily live musical presentations, in both the Orr Mansion West Parlor and the Transportation Museum. From several local piano student recitals to high school show choirs to the Mad River Dulcimer Society and the Friendly Senior Center Choir, there’s enough variety to keep everyone humming their favorite holiday carols for the rest of the day.
Even the second and third floors received special holiday attention. The second floor, decorated by Christmas committee members, follows the theme Santa’s Workshop, with rooms for gift wrapping, stuffed animals, games and dolls. And the third-floor ballroom has been completely devoted to model trains.
