Calvary Christian standout Elisha Carter surpassed the 2,000-point mark Monday and set a school record for most points in a game as the Spartans defeated visiting Bowling Green Christian Academy 81-33 at Union Station.
Carter hit her 2,000th career point on a foul shot in the first quarter with 7:30 left on the game clock. She finished with 40 points to set a school record. She knocked down five three-pointers on the night.
“Elisha Carter was on fire tonight and scored a career high,” said Calvary head coach Eli Carter. “Not too many players shoot 13 of 16 from the field. It was a special occasion for her as well for scoring her 2000th career point.”
Calvary (13-2) was firing on all cylinders from the start of the game and finished the opening quarter ahead 28-13. The Spartans went on a 15-0 run in the second quarter to build a 49-22 cushion at halftime.
The third quarter saw Calvary shut out Bowling Green 14-0 to take a 63-22 advantage. The Spartans finished off their lopsided win in the fourth quarter with an 18-11 run.
“I challenged our girls to step it up on the defensive end in the second half and they exceeded my expectations,” said Carter. “It’s not too often you hold a team scoreless in a period. Bowling Green is a good team but we came out determined to make a statement and we did. We are playing some great basketball.”
In addition to Carter, Marjorie Boy scored 13 points for the Spartans and Ruth Boy had nine points.
